Thinking about redesigning our kitchen

*Collaborative post*

The last couple of months the country has been in lockdown and spending all of my time now at home, including working from home, I have a massive list of home improvements I now want to make! In day to day life I wouldn’t have been so bothered but now being at home 24/7 I have started picking out things I don’t like or things that need a lick of paint.

You could have a million ideas for home improvements but it does really come down to money and what you can afford to do and also if you are skilled enough to do it yourself or will have to pay someone, meaning more expense.

I have wanted to re do our kitchen for a while now but since being at home all the time I have wanted it done more than ever. It can be very expensive to re tile/paint the walls as well as buying all new cupboards and worktops but by leaving the existing cupboards and just changing the worktops it can be much more cost effective and actually make a massive difference to the look and feel of the kitchen.

I have been looking at various worktops and I think by picking out a new design or colour it can really make a big difference to the kitchen and can transform the room without having to pay for a whole new kitchen!

When it comes to worktops there are so many options to pick from depending on your budget. You can go for a cheaper option of laminate or you can go for quartz which is a bit more expensive.

We currently have laminate and love it but want to go for a different colour/design. You can get a stone looking finish in laminate which can look really good. We have a dark grey stone effect at the moment with light wooden cupboards but I think it would look so good with light worktops.

Both laminate and quartz are great options, it really just depends what you prefer and what look/price you are going for.

Some of the quartz options look so beautiful and sparkly but probably a bit too expensive for us at the moment.

You can get a free estimate online once you have worked out the size of your current worktop/what you need and for some styles you can request samples which is great.

We haven’t picked out an exact one yet as still working out our budget but really impressed with the options out there!

What type of kitchen worktop do you have?

I love the idea of redesigning a part of the home and am always on pinterest looking at ideas. It’s great that they have so many options and I agree a lighter worktop would look so good.

Exciting home renovations! I was just watching an HGTV show last night (I think it was Hometown?) and their client had a really small budget so they were doing laminate but that looked like stone, exactly like you said. The cool thing they did was a straight edge instead of a rounded one on the counters, since the rounded edge is a pretty distinctive laminate trait. So the straight edge made it look more like stone.

At the moment we have wooden surfaces which are a nightmare to keep clean. I’d like quartz or marble but they can be so pricey!

I hate my kitchen so much and this post has only made me want to change it more. It’s difficult for me to choose because I think darker colours look better in real life a lot of the time but light and bright is better for food photos! x

We redesigned our kitchen in the autumn and it was so stressful – pinterest was my guide and it really helped visualise the end product!
