Home Projects for the Summer

Your home can sometimes feel like an extension of yourself, especially if you’re currently spending a bit more time there than usual! Just as you want to take care of your body, your wardrobe and your mind, taking care of your home can help you to feel put-together and like you can take on anything.  A clean, beautiful home is the best representation of you and creates an environment where you can feel your best every day. However, just as clothes become overworn without proper care, your house can easily start to feel neglected as other parts of your life become busier. Well, now is a great time to start fixing some of these issues so you can feel truly at home once again. Summer is the perfect time to undertake a few home improvement tasks, including the ones below!

Look Up

So your drains have been collecting moss, there are pigeons nesting up in the roof and each year more little pieces of slate fall onto your driveway after every storm. It might not be the most glamorous task, but keeping your rooftops in shape should be number one on your list of priorities. After all, this is what keeps your home warm and dry and without that, it’s quite hard to have anything else! Summer is the perfect time to get any roof restoration work done, with longer daylight hours and dryer weather to keep everything on track.

Look Around

Winter might be the perfect time to cosy inside and perhaps do a few DIY projects with furniture and soft materials (if you haven’t tried quilting as a therapeutic exercise yet, you haven’t experienced the perfect December), but Summer is the opposite. Now is the time to get outside, and get creative. There’s gardening, sure, but have you ever considered the outside walls of your house itself? Chances are you haven’t, and it’s all looking a bit neglected. There are plenty of ways you can spruce up your exteriors to look just as gorgeous as their insides. A good clean is definitely in order, and pressure hoses are perfect for this task. Then, consider putting up trellises to encourage climbing flowers to take hold up the walls, or even paint some bricks to add colour and detail – maybe even a little outdoor mural!

Look Down

Just as it’s the perfect weather to take action on your roof, it’s also a brilliant time to tackle what lies beneath your feet. Do you have a basement that’s damp and dark, and mostly used for storage? If so, use the summer months to clear it out, fix any leaks, replace the flooring for something more watertight – and voila! You can check out a range of options with an Online Flooring Store and pick the one that will really finish the room off. The perfect space for a new games room, or a cosy chill-out space, or a unique spare bedroom, or anything else you want to use it for. If you’d rather just keep it for storage, then at least you’ll have peace of mind that the damp won’t creep into all your old school projects and turn them into mush.

This is such a great way of seeing what needs doin . I must admit that I tend to just see things at eye level and forget to look up

Aw I love watching all of the houses and buildings around us get ready for summer, especially with the new blooms. Luckily, living in a condo, we don’t have to worry much about the home prep!

Good ideas for getting the home in order! I’m about to move but I hope the landlord sorts the roof soon – tiles fell off in a storm nearly a year ago now!

Love these ideas. Definitely things I just didn’t even think of, e.g. painting the outside of the house! Great tips, thank you! x

My garden is my summer project! It’s slow going but it’ll perfect by the time we’re allowed people round!
