Office MOT

Yes, you read correctly, office MOT. Your car has an MOT so why not adopt the same concept for your body?
You really need to think of ways to keep your mind and body healthy if you are sat down in front of a screen for the majority of the day. It could be as simple as getting up to have a drink at certain intervals during the day or making sure you stand up at least once an hour.
Furniture at work have put together a really great asset that you can find more about here. It is aimed at people that work full time in an office. I work full time and then most evenings I sit at my computer at home too so I really do try to walk about as much as I can.
They make a really great point that the colour of your surroundings can make a difference. Have you noticed how a lot of social media platforms use blue? Blue is apparently recognised as a safe and social colour. I like to think that pink makes me more motivated.
You may not be able to adapt the colour of your surroundings to how you like but many ways I have incorporated my favourite colours into my line of sight at work is by changing my background and taskbar, using colourful post-it notes and highlighters.
It is interesting to hear that 50% of people can’t find time to exercise when working full time. I myself like to try and exercise most evenings when I get in but there are small steps you can take throughout the day. You can stand up regularly to get yourself a drink, you can walk over to someone else in the office to talk to them instead of sending an email or you can go on a walk during your lunch break.
It can be easy to fall into a trap with eating bad snacks during the day, especially if you have a food van that comes round like we do. The warm sausage roll sounds a lot more tempting than the apple on my desk… It is important to try and eat as healthy as you can and if you are like me and you like to snack then pick up some healthy snack bars to keep in your drawer.
A lot of the tips mentioned can relate to other jobs, whether you you do physical work or work in retail, it is important to eat well, drink plenty of water and take breaks.
We really do take our bodies for granted and it is important to respect them and take care of them as after all, we want them to last as long as they can…

Another great post!! It is so important to give your mind a rest, and make time for your body… even if that means taking 10 minutes to stretch out!
